The Fort Lauderdale Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) was chartered in the year 1945; later becoming The Fort Lauderdale/Broward Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. This Branch has remained in the forefront of the struggle to bring about justice and equality for all citizens of Broward County. The NAACP is an organization that advocates for the rights of all people regardless of their race, color, age, religion or national origin. This branch of the NAACP is the leading Branch in the nation with respect to program and results.

Fort Lauderdale/Broward Branch Officers attend and speak out at FLPD CRB Meeting

  Broward NAACP President Marsha Ellison told members of the city's Citizens Police Review Board on Monday that she is concerned about potential retaliation against officers for telling the truth to consultants about racial divisions and problems within the department. "I don't think anybody here truly believes it stops with five or four officers," Ellison said. "To sit here and know that anyone that speaks up is suddenly going to be under investigation, what does that say about the department?"

"Eula Johnson was Fort Lauderdale's version of Rosa Parks," said Marsha Ellison, president of the Fort Lauderdale branch of the NAACP. "She just wanted to be treated like everyone else. She wanted folks to be treated right and was willing to sacrifice herself for that."
